Project type
Public Pavilion
Date
Spring 2024
Programs Used
Sketchup, Enscape, & Photoshop
Location
Albany Park, Chicago, IL
This pavilion space is dedicated to the Venezuelan migrants currently seeking refuge in Chicago. The large communal meeting space is meant to serve several purposes: as an education space, a place of cultural exchange, and as a hub for advocacy and outreach initiatives.
The chosen material - concrete - is synonymous with the strength and resilience of the migrants. It also symbolizes the solid foundation of home meant to be built under the pavilion’s roof. The solid concrete is highlighted with the Venezuelan flag colors; yellow, blue, and red to further emphasize a sense of home and place in their new surroundings. The curved roof shape symbolizes the departure from linear traditions and embodies instead the fluidity and energy of forging new pathways. This shelter represents a foundation of strength, resilience, and unity, supporting migrant's aspirations as they navigate a path toward a brighter future.
